Privacy Policy — TikTok ScrollGuard
Last updated: February 18, 2026
Overview
TikTok ScrollGuard ("the Extension") is a browser extension that helps users manage their TikTok screen time by setting session limits. This privacy policy explains how the Extension handles user data.
Data Collection
TikTok ScrollGuard does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data.
The Extension does not:
- Collect personally identifiable information (PII)
- Track browsing history beyond TikTok session activity
- Send data to any external servers
- Use analytics, telemetry, or tracking services
- Require user accounts or registration
- Access any content you view on TikTok (video content, comments, messages, etc.)
Data Storage
All data is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in Storage API (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local). This includes:
| Data | Purpose | Storage Type |
|---|---|---|
| Session configuration | Your preferred time/video limits | chrome.storage.sync |
| Session state | Current session timer and video count | chrome.storage.session |
| Usage statistics | Daily time spent and videos watched | chrome.storage.local |
| Streak data | Consecutive days of respecting limits | chrome.storage.local |
- Sync storage data may sync across your Chrome browsers if you are signed into Chrome. This is a Chrome feature and is governed by Google's privacy policy.
- Local/session storage data remains on the device where the Extension is installed.
- All stored data can be cleared by uninstalling the Extension.
Permissions
The Extension requests the following permissions:
| Permission | Why It's Needed |
|---|---|
storage | To save your settings, session state, and usage stats locally |
alarms | To run periodic checks (every 30 seconds) to enforce time limits |
*://*.tiktok.com/* | To inject the UI overlay and widget on TikTok pages only |
The Extension does not request permissions to access your browsing history, bookmarks, downloads, or any other browser data.
Tab Muting
When a session limit is reached, the Extension mutes TikTok tabs using Chrome's tab API. Tabs are unmuted when a new session starts (via snooze or typing challenge). No audio is recorded or processed.
Third-Party Services
The Extension does not integrate with or send data to any third-party services, APIs, or servers.
Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect data from children under the age of 13. Since the Extension collects no data at all, this is not applicable.
Changes to This Policy
If this privacy policy is updated, the changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
